The mission of
ShareSong.org is to “facilitate the distribution of Christian praise
and worship music freely.”
Background
The motivation for
ShareSong.org originated from a group of Christian songwriters who wanted
to have their songs used by other people, but had no way of distributing
their work.
“…freely ye
have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8)
“He that spared
not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with
Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)
As technology
developed to the point that the distribution of music via the Internet was
viable, it became possible to develop an a website site that allowed anyone who shared the vision of “getting this music out there” to
participate. Check out Russ' testimony and Marty's testimony for more background on how it all began.
Industry
or ministry? Jesus saved His
harshest rebuke for those people who turned God’s House into a market
place rather than a place of worship (Matthew 21:12-17, Mark 11:15–18
and John 2:14-18).
ShareSong.org aims to be a place where
followers of
“For the love of
money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have
wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” (1 Timothy 6:10) That being said, we encourage
anyone who has been blessed by the work of others to voluntarily support them
through donations or by following links to their websites where music can
be purchased.
“The fact that
ShareSong.org glorifies no one but Jesus and financially rewards no one but the kingdom
is a very compelling reason for people to get involved. It feels good to
commit to.”

Sing
a new song Internet
distribution allows people who cannot, or choose not to, access the
traditional music recording and distribution system to get their music
into the hands of the “end user” at minimal expense. Conversely,
users now have a virtually limitless resource of fresh material available
to them.
“Sing to the LORD
a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, praise His
name; proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the
nations, His marvellous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and
most worthy of praise; He is to be feared above all gods.” Psalm 96:1-4
