Copyright

ShareSong.org's mission is to distribute Christian music freely and efficiently between writers and users.  We do not propose to own songs published through the site (see Contributor's Agreement).

We understand that songwriters want to retain ownership of their work and do not want it used for profit by other people without permission.

Many Christian songwriters register their work with Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI).

Registering your work with CCLI will:

  • Give you some income ($US3 - 5 per registration) from the use of your songs in churches (1 Timothy 5:18),

  • Provide some level of copyright verification (i.e. if someone else was to use your songs for profit then it could be verified through CCLI that you were the original owner/composer of the song),

  • Give churches confidence that they can legally use your work.

Details about registering your material with CCLI can be found on their website.

Check out Ray Watson's article on copyright for a more thorough discussion of this issue.
