...hard working public servants... ...how do you shut down? Go to the start menu! [more]
November 2, 2006 This morning I merely have anecdotal jottings about something I’ve noted, particularly around Father’s Day. As I have been teaching, plus now as a chaplain I regularly talk with kids that just crave their father. [more]
November 3, 2006 We were stressed. It was looking like we would have to rent a home for a time seeing we couldn’t find a suitable home. The contract on our existing home was to be finalized in fourteen days. Despite looking for several months we had... [more]
November 4, 2006 Christ is useless… | Ephesians 5:4 Giving a half sentence or phrase can get you in all sorts of bother, but did it get your attention? This morning I wanted to give you a warning. It’s really plain and simple. [more]
November 5, 2006 Every day it’s the same. I take my dog for a walk, and get some exercise happening at the same time! But along the way... [more]
November 6, 2006 Biscuit dipping | Ezekiel 36:26
There may be some of you
with a similar fetish. I just love on a cold winter’s morning to prepare a
hot coffee with two biscuits ready for dunking. Then it is important to take
the time to dip carefully...

The Friday before
Father’s day I was working with six and seven year old kids. For Show ‘n
Tell there were lots of stories about the coming weekend and visiting Dad.
The different faces showed excitement, smiles of expectation and hope.

Blazing across the pre-sunrise sky was the brilliant trail left by an international airliner. It was a wonderful streak, reflecting the brilliance, the brightness, of the early morning sun. [more]
November 9, 2006 Merry-go round freedom | Ephesians 3:20
Both boys seemed too old for this historical merry-go round. It was
originally constructed for the European show circuit, with classic artwork
that had been painstakingly restored. But they insisted...

November 10, 2006 Wobbly double chin | Psalms 92:4
“Can we have a go, uncle
Bruce?” they asked. “Pleeeeeeease, you did promise one more ride,” both boys
added with finesse and charm. How could a doting uncle resist such a
request, and within moments...

Australia has a
reputation as a friendly place, with plenty of ‘G’day mate’, ‘howdy’ and
‘good on ya’s’ being passed around. But I cannot resist raising my deep
concern for the increasing numbers of people – refugees – and how they are
treated. [more]
November 12, 2006 No longer a planet | John 14:17
“It’s official”,
announced the radio news reader, “Pluto is no longer a planet!” [more] November 13, 2006 Spend your DASH | John 10:10b TM
Most times on gravestones
you notice the year of birth and year of death! On some they have the
detailed dates for both events. But let me ask you,
what’s in between these two dates? Usually a dash! [more]
November 14, 2006 My principalship | Matthew 10:39
I sat and listened to
this friend of five years, this leader in the local educational community.
She had always been busy, focused… and incredibly organised. But here she was, tear in
her eye, tissue in hand, declaring words I never thought possible coming
from her mouth. “I have had to... [more] November 15, 2006 Not there and noticeable | John 14:16,17
The food court cleaning
personnel were quietly yet efficiently moving around doing their job,
unnoticed, collecting rubbish, wiping tables, sweeping the floor. [more] November 16, 2006 Tuning the radio | 1 Peter 5:6
Crackle. Singing.
Crackle. Audible words. Roar. Annoying banter. Nothing. The car radio
searched automatically for the clearest station... [more]
Discontented screams | Isaiah 44:18,19a
Sitting in a food court
with plenty of chatting, busy noises and movement, everything was going fine
till a mother tried to move one. Her toddler had been engrossed in a
wonderful ride for several minutes and it was now finished. [more] November 18, 2006
It was Saturday morning @
5am. Dawn wasn’t even a hint, and I was sitting at the dining table of my
parent’s home on my annual visit. I was amazed at how noisy it was. Two
clocks were noticeably ticking away...

November 19, 2006
It wasn’t said as an
accusation, but my sister spoke words on her recent visit that arrowed my
heart immediately. “Oh, dear, you are
earthy, aren’t you?” she flippantly spoke...
[more] November 20, 2006 Where’s my daddy? | John 17:26 The tear ran down the face of this sad young lady. She was only six… and terribly alone. The shopping centre staff had found her wandering, asking an important heart-breaking question.
“Where’s my daddy?” came
the pained query.

In they went, with focus,
discipline and intent. As the dripping youngsters filed past me again and
again, having completed ‘their strokes’ I began to notice the same child was
always last.

I got the garbled phone
call… “She’s won!” My wife was on the other end of the phone, screaming,
crying, excitedly and unashamedly letting the world know! Our daughter had just won
Australia’s ‘apprentice baker of the year’ competition. She was the first
female ever to win this prestigious award! [more] November 23, 2006 Sloshing around | Matthew 5:15,16
Having paid for the
drinks the tray was slid professionally onto the counter by the waitress. I
was faced with the task of walking to my seated guests, and show my
ineptness of carrying drinks.

Walking on Tasmania’s
famous Overland Track was an awesome experience. Seventy-five kilometres of
fresh air, mountains, temperate rainforest, snow and ice. It was a
photographer’s paradise, filled with grandeur at every turn.

But on the last morning
of camp, I wasn’t planning on a cabin full of rowdy boys catching me off
guard. [more] November 26, 2006
On a local toll road a
new device has changed driver behaviour. It was simple, and easy to
implement. With many freeways having
tolls in my city more and more drivers are taking advantage of an eToll
system... [more] November 27, 2006 Living hell | Psalm 40:1-2, NLT
What’s ‘living in hell’
like? I don’t know, but over the years I have heard the expression many
times. Then as I have contemplated a little further, I think there have been
times in my life when hell... [more] November 28, 2006
