Yearning Dad

by Bruce Wadd

This morning I merely have anecdotal jottings about something I’ve noted, particularly around Father’s Day. As I have been teaching, plus now as a chaplain I regularly talk with kids that just crave their father.

More and more kids in my schools tell stories of an absent, violent, neglectful, drunk, drugged, immature, jailed, disengaged or over-sexed male that is their father. I’m not having a go at males – I happen to be one – but I notice the deep yearning of children for their male parent.

It becomes especially evident just before Father’s Day. ‘Where’s my daddy?’ comes the collective and painful cry.

God made us with a yearning for our father. Today, I wanted to uplift those with an unquenched hunger for their father, and encourage you to let your Heavenly Father know your deep desire. He can fill that need!

“But Lord, you are my shield, my glory, and my only hope. You alone can lift my head, now bowed in shame”

Psalms 3:3
