Wounded healer

by Bruce Wadd

The scars of tragedy are all around us.

The other day I worked with a refugee child, a new arrival to Australia, and at twelve years of age she had only ever lived in the squalor of a refugee camp.  No school, television, modern conveniences, very little language experience or exposure to the arts!  A tragedy… but as she reminded me, at least she was alive!

There are the families of suicide victims, mourning their loved one, knowing that a life has been cut short because they could not face life any more.

How about the wife that has just escaped an abusive spouse?  Where is her self-esteem?  How is she ever going to rebuild her life? Where will she start?

Ever seen someone with a huge scar somewhere on their body?  A knee reconstruction?  A heart transplant?  What kind of intense discomfort have they been through?

Have you noticed that when you meet someone that has been through the pain that you have experienced, immediately you have synergy, an empathy for each other, where more effective dialogue can develop.

In reality you have been empowered to serve others, by experiencing difficulties in your life.  Somehow God can take the pain, disasters and failures in your life and use them as gems for others.

Jesus set the example for this when he chose to enter this world, eventually being murdered for truth and love… so that we all could have life eternal!  And that includes you and I!

Here is Jesus instruction.

“Don’t be faithless any longer.  Believe!”

John 20:27b

Today, trust Jesus…. wounds do produce good!
