Words on a windy day

by Bruce Wadd

Today’s Thought quickly spread out across my backyard!

Here I was happily reading the newspaper, when a huge gust of wind picked up the section I had carefully placed on the ground as my next reading assignment, and blew it everywhere.

I was amazed at how quickly it went from being neatly folded on the grass to being individual pieces flying in every direction, swirling, flapping and twisting in the flurry of newsprint and pictures.

Quickly, I sprang into action, trying to get all the pieces before they flew over the fence and out of sight. I was out of breath before the last section was brought under control.

So too, words shared without consideration, can take off uncontrollably, going where never intended, and be virtually impossible to retrieve.

Like the newspaper that never returns to it's neatly folded self, your ill-disciplined expressions can never be recalled to their previous unspoken state.

Take some wisdom from the Psalms about the tongue…

“Do you want a long, good life?

Then watch your tongue! Keep your lips from lying.”

Psalms 34:12,13

TODAY, consider your words before they are spoken!
