Will you be the one?

by Brandy Ferguson

I decided at the last second, just before the red light changed to green, to go the other way, so I put on my blinker.  Anticipating that someone would graciously allow me to cut in, I stayed in my lane and waited for my opportunity.

I was shocked as car after car whizzed by and no one let me over.  Surprised, I began to ask myself (and the people speeding past me) “Where is the love?”

Do you ever ask yourself, Where IS the compassion?

Those people sure did not owe it to me – they didn’t even know me.  But it made me question: Is compassion something we only display to those we know and interact with regularly?

Is compassion a fruit I bear, a quality I demonstrate, only if it means I will get something in return?  Or is compassion meant to be something that is a result of the love in our hearts that everyone around us benefits from?

“Finally, all of you, live in harmony

with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers,

be compassionate and humble.”
1 Peter 3:8 (NIV)
