What’s in a name?

By Karen Collum

I have been known by a number of names in my life.  At birth I was named Karen Marie Webb.  When I married, I traded Webb for Collum.  As a teacher, I have been known as Miss Webb and Mrs. Collum.

My favourite name of all is Kammy.  My younger brother mispronounced ‘Karen’ and it stuck.  Kammy is a very personal name to me.  It’s the name used by people who love me.

When I think about myself, I think of myself as Kammy.  It’s who I am!

There are many names for God in the Bible. He is El Shaddai – God Almighty; Jehovah-Rophe – The Lord who heals; El-Olam – God Everlasting.

God has a favourite name too.  He asks us to call Him ‘Abba’ which is translated to ‘Father’ or ‘Daddy’.

“For you did not receive a spirit

that makes you a slave again to fear,

but you received the Spirit of Sonship.

And by Him we cry, ‘Abba, Father’."
Romans 8:15

Spend some time with your Heavenly Dad – He’d love to hear from you!
