Weeding

by Elizabeth Price

We were altering gardens and displaced a mass of small bulbs.  I did not want to lose any of them so I hurriedly tossed them into a plastic container with some garden soil.

Over the following weeks they sprouted, and I tried to keep them weeded but they looked exactly the same as new weeds.  Both had a single, slender, tender blade.

Masses of bulbs no bigger than pin’s heads grew among the weeds and could not be separated without destroying both.

I had no choice but to stop weeding and let them all grow together until the proper time to harvest them.

Jesus told a similar story.

"…while you are pulling the weeds,

you may root up the wheat with them.

Let them both grow together until the harvest.

At that time I will tell the harvesters:

First, collect the weeds and tie them in bundles

to be burned; then gather the wheat

and bring it into my barn."

Matthew 13:24-30

It is a relief to know that He will take responsibility for the harvest!
