Weaned

by Bruce Wadd

Most families do it at some point in their children’s early lives – wean their precious infant/s off breast or bottle milk! With screaming and discontent the need for sucking a bottle or breast is gradually reduced.

It’s not easy! It takes time. But most importantly it takes discipline from a parent’s viewpoint to avoid succumbing to the painful shrieks of the infant learning to live in this next stage of life.

If we as parents focus on the extreme level of unhappiness in our offspring, we would easily give in to the pressure, but our goal is to have this awesome yet immature individual move on. We want to see this infant grow and mature... and that’s going to mean some short term discomfort!

You are no different!

God, at some point in your Christian life, will take you through experiences that begin to wean you off ‘baby’ thinking and behaviour. Your emotions will often scream their discontent, but God only sees the end result – contentment, peace and increased trust in Him!

Once you’ve had a taste of this greater life in Him, you never really fit back with the ‘baby stuff’. Trusting in God leads to living in freedom beyond daily circumstance. Here’s a reminder…

“I am quiet now before the Lord, just as a child

who is weaned from the breast.

Yes, my begging has been stilled.”

Psalms 131:2

TODAY, be weaned! Grow up!
