Watch the pimple trap

 by Bruce Wadd

Having a teenage son who has real challenges with acne, pimples become a daily event.  When he comes and speaks with me about anything I find myself not really listening, but looking at that imperfection on his cheek that desperately needs squeezing.

How often have I fallen into this messy trap?  My whole mind focuses on squeezing the pimple, getting rid of this prominent pest on his face so he will look better. Rather than listening to his message I get distracted.

Embarrassing that as a father I would act like this! What a dismal approach to my offspring? How could I possibly treat him so poorly?

How do you look at people in your life? Are you ever trapped by outside appearances or behaviours, rather than building a relationship with a person on the inside?

Will people walk away from having contact with you today feeling uplifted and better for the experience?  Or will they leave downtrodden and judged because you chose to look at their external appearance and circumstance but not their heart?  It’s up to you!

“Men judge by outward appearance,
but I look at a man’s thoughts and intentions.”
1 Samuel 16:7

TODAY, look beyond the pimples!
