Vine-ripened

by Bruce Wadd

If it is taste versus looks, I will take taste every time.  Let me use tomatoes as an example.  When you walk into a supermarket you will usually see perfect red fruit stacked neatly and looking very attractive.  You might be thinking about buying some, and given how nice-looking they are, your attraction influences your purchasing.

Then as you are travelling home you may have the chance to go past a roadside stall with locally grown tomatoes for sale.  For some reason you stop and purchase several more!

The real test is in the eating, and so the next morning you have both varieties of fruit, supermarket and home grown, to choose from, and you just know which one will taste better – the vine-ripened product!

There is a real maturity in its flavour, and if you are like me, you can’t resist the luscious taste, especially with a sprinkle of salt.

Christians can sometimes look very smooth on the outside, but their true character is put on display when they are under trial.  If you, as a new Christian, are facing challenges in your life at the moment, your character is being vine-ripened, and your ‘flavour’ in time will be unmistakably mature in God!

“And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in His grace

until His task within you is finally finished

on that day when Jesus Christ returns.”

Philippians 1:6

TODAY, stay connected to God, it will bring a sweet flavour to your life!
