View from the top
I remember as a kid climbing Picket Hill, a 350m granite mound looming in the background of my family’s farm. Dad always talked about climbing this peak, and then early one Saturday morning he took my brother and I to the top.
The first stage was easy, but as we drew to the foot of the hill we looked up and lost sight of the top. Every step from then on was hard going, with a brief rest every few minutes. For most of the journey we couldn’t see the top at all, just the next rise that we were working towards.
In my child’s mind, it
seemed like we would never
Finally, though, the top did come into sight again. With renewed energy my brother and I started to run. Finally, we’d reached the pinnacle – a goal that both of us had secretly held all the years living on the farm.
Then we could finally enjoy the best part of the climb - the view. There was our home, a tiny speck below. Behind it were the ocean, the surf, several distant towns, the roads and ant-like cars moving along the main highway!
Isn’t life sometimes like that…facing struggles and challenges it’s easy to take your view off ‘the top’? It is tempting to get sidetracked from the main goal of our lives – living for Christ!
Let me remind you of the view…the vista that God sees above all the blockages in our lives. An author once wrote…“Let’s make sure we do not let our problems loom bigger than God’s answers and His power in our hearts.” The view after the struggle is always worthwhile!
Remember…
