Valley vs. mountain

by Bruce Wadd

We sat gazing over the deep valley, energized by the view and exhilarated by the fear of sitting on the edge of a thousand foot cliff.  This group of university students, out for a weekend adventure, looked across the valley to the closest mountain.

“Feels like you can almost reach out and touch that mountain,” I naively stated. “Well, did you realize,” my mountaineering friend revealed, “it would take a good day to walk there from here.”

Sometimes mountain top experiences are forgotten when you’re in the depths of the valley.  The deep journey often takes much longer, and is more painful than the intoxicating vista of the mountain.

But I found it’s where maturity, wisdom, peace and abiding faith are discovered, and the wonderful glorious nature of God.

He promised to be with you… all the way!  So start walking…

“Even when walking through the dark valley of death

I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way.”

Psalms 23:4
