True wealth

by Bruce Wadd

Upon a visit to Thailand I learnt so much that I wasn’t expecting.  With great enjoyment my wife and I walked through many markets looking at rows and rows of artefacts, clothing, jewellery, watches, material, shoes etc.  The amount of things seemed almost endless.

The really tempting part was the prices.  Compared to Australia most items were significantly cheaper, and so the spending splurge began.  T-shirts, shoes, gold chains, leather goods, some local cultural memorabilia and watches ended up in our possession for a fraction of the Australian price.

Upon arriving home we unpacked bags laden with goods, some for us, but most for our children, relatives and friends.  With the ‘Christmas experience’ over we felt rather blessed and ‘rich’ with all this gear.

Weeks later, I looked at my fading gold watch – a genuine copy of a very expensive Swiss watch – my wealth faded!  It seemed so short lived!

Here is some wisdom for you… true wealth comes gradually, is earned honestly, and is appreciated as a gift from God.

“Steady plodding brings prosperity.

Hasty speculation brings poverty.”

Proverbs 21:5

Today, appreciate true wealth!
