Tied to the top

by Bruce Wadd

Imagine abseiling!  You prepare yourself extremely well by being physically fit, buying all the appropriate ropes and other paraphernalia.  You hire the best instructor you can find, so you feel absolutely confident that you are going to have a totally enjoyable time.

On arriving at the cliff site you take note of the large number of people already there, and you feel even more confident that things are going to proceed well.  You unload your gear.

The instructor, who knows this site intimately, has everything prepared and assists you with attaching all the gear needed.  He begins to instruct you in the finer details of rope handling, body movement, what verbal instructions are to be used during the climb, and finally, some attitude checks!

All is ready to go!

You proceed to the edge of the cliff.  But one thing forgotten - you aren’t tied to anything at the top!

I don’t need to paint the scenario anymore.  Our actions can be so much like this without repentance.  You might be doing all the right things, but unless you are submitting your will to God, it’s all futile.

“And then there is your ‘righteousness’
and your ‘good works’ – none of which will save you.” Isaiah 57:12

TODAY, make sure you are tied to Him!
