Thrown out meal

by Bruce Wadd

My wife spent hours preparing the ‘Christmas in July’ function, planning, decorating and cooking for a large number.  The months of hard work were starting to pay off with plenty of expectant people booking and paying, and final preparations being put in place.

When the evening arrived the venue looked spectacular. The staff were all trained in their various roles, and most importantly, the kitchen smelt ‘divine’.  Early arrivals commented on the luscious smell, obviously looking forward to the occasion!

Guests were seated, the live band entertained, drinks were offered and candles flickered, adding that special Christmas ambience.  It was going to be a great evening!

As the meals arrived, the conversations quietened, and people began savouring the exquisite tastes - paradise for taste buds!  But like most wonderful meals, it had to end, and so the waiting staff gradually began to clear off the remnants of the main course, in preparation for the next.

The used plates began arriving in the kitchen, and because I was working as kitchen-hand extrordinaire, I overheard one of the hard workers express with amazement, “It’s almost a crime!”

“What do you mean?” responded most people within earshot.

Quickly came the reply, “All our hard work in putting this meal together, and people send back almost completely untouched meals!”

It was hard to believe, but quite a few meals returned without any hint of being touched. Health regulations required each of these delights to be binned immediately. Some staff found that hard to do!

Your life without Christ can be the same.  Without Him you are throwing away all the blessing, all the possibilities that come from spending time getting to know and live in Him.  Reflect on this…

“Then if my people will humble themselves and pray, and search for me, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear them from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

TODAY, don’t become a 'thrown-out meal', savour every moment!
