The pressure’s off

by Bruce Wadd

I can still remember it.  Arriving home from school on a Friday afternoon, and my mum and grandma had been busy all day preparing food for the weekend.  The greeting of smells, sights and sounds excited the man inside this little boy – it meant good food was on the menu!

One sound is firmly etched in the memory – the whistling of the old pressure cooker!  Grandma always warned that if you couldn’t hear it, to get out of the kitchen immediately, and to let her know – disaster was imminent!

As a child I imagined the mess that could be caused by such an accident, but knew that I didn’t want to be victim of flying shrapnel!

As a Christian temptation and sin create pressure.  Inside us is embedded a desire and need to be perfect – and both God and the devil remind us of this fact.  But let me release the pressure valve for you… to build perspective and truth around this fact.

Jesus Christ was sent so that He could fulfil the perfect requirement of the law, and in doing so give us life eternal.  Yes, that’s right – the pressure’s off!  In Him you have complete perfection… and that is the most wonderful gift you will ever receive!

“He sent his own Son in a human body like ours -

except that ours are sinful – and destroyed sin’s control over us by giving himself as a sacrifice for our sins.”

Romans 8:3

TODAY, be excited… the pressure’s been released!
