The operation

by Karen Collum

The anaesthetist places a mask over my face and tells me to take deep breaths. “You’ll soon be asleep. Just relax”, he says. Sweaty palms, racing heart, swirling stomach, dry mouth.

Fear. It knows no boundaries, is not prejudiced, and does not play favourites. We have all experienced it, but what do we do about it? What is the solution?

“Do not be anxious (fearful) about

anything, but in everything by

prayer and petition, with thanksgiving

present your requests to God.”

Philippians 4:6

The antidote to fear is thanksgiving. Holding the hand of a dying relative?
Be thankful for the time spent together. About to embark on a new venture? Be thankful for the way God has led you in the past. Facing a health crisis? Be thankful for the medical technology available to you.

Thankfulness takes your eyes off the problem and sets your sight squarely on the King of the Universe, and what He has done for you. It’s hard to be scared when looking into your Father’s eyes.

TODAY!  Be thankful!
