The benediction

by Karen Collum

One of my great-uncles passed away recently.  Uncle Ron was in his 80’s when he finally succumbed to non-smokers' lung cancer.

He was well known throughout the small town of Mullumbimby.  He was actively involved in his church, the community and the local church school.  He always had enough time to listen to the troubles of a friend and provide words of wisdom.

Upon his death, Uncle Ron took one last breath, looked heaven-ward and said, “I now pronounce the benediction.”  How profound - a final prayer of blessing over his own life!

Uncle Ron’s life reminded me of some beautiful, yet challenging, words…

“… live a life worthy of the calling

you have received.”

Ephesians 4:1

TODAY!  Follow the example of my Great Uncle Ron!
