The wandering albatross

by Karen Collum

With a wing span of up to four meters, it is one of the world’s largest birds. Spending up to ten years at sea at one time, the albatross is a familiar sight for ships of the southern oceans.  What a magnificent creature!

My year six class spent months making a life-sized model of a wandering albatross.  The finished product was proudly hung from the ceiling of my classroom.

Standing beneath it, we were silent.  The wingspan was truly awesome.   We always knew the albatross was big, we just didn’t realize how big!

King David wrote:

“Have mercy on me, O God,

have mercy on me,

for in You my soul takes refuge.

I will take refuge in the

shadow of your wings until the

disaster has passed.”

Psalm 57:1

TODAY!  Take refuge in God’s shadow.  He’s big
enough for you to find the shelter you need!
