The importance of adjectives

 By Karen Collum

Like all of us, I have many roles in my life.  Wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend are just some of the nouns used to describe me.

I have discovered that while these nouns are important, they are not nearly as important as the adjectives that precede them.

Loving wife or critical wife?  Fun mother or grumpy mother?  Enthusiastic teacher or disinterested teacher?  Loyal friend or fair-weather friend?

We don’t get to choose the adjectives that describe us – other people get that privilege!   We can, however, choose how we live our lives.  Paul gives us some advice.

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you

to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient,

bearing with one another in love.”

Ephesians 4:1-2

TODAY! Choose to be humble, gentle, patient and loving!
