Why that route?

by Bruce Wadd

Travelling back to the place of my childhood has brought back lots of memories over the years.  The fun, laughter and freedom of growing up on a farm stays prominently in my memory.

For some reason my memory banks returned to the old highway that used to run past our property.  As I walked on the historical route, now overgrown with weeds, bushes and trees, I asked the question – why did the road builders take that route?

The old highway had dips and turns, was very narrow, had plenty of bumps, and certainly would have caused many disasters with the today’s volume and speed of traffic.

Looking at the new road and comparing it with the old, highlighted the supposed insanity of the previous designers.  Was that really the case?  I wonder if they were doing the best they could given the thinking, technology and resources available to them at the time.  If they were living and working today, what kind of road would they have built?

So to with your life!  As you look back you wonder why certain directions and choices were taken.  It is only in hindsight that understanding, empathy and learning find true context.

Your new life as a Christian now makes so much more sense.  Never forget your old life, because it has prepared you for service to others, those who may be journeying the same road you’ve already travelled!

“Be sure to use the abilities God has given you… Put these abilities to work; throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone may notice your improvement and progress.”

1 Timothy 4:14,15

TODAY, stay on God’s route for your life!
