Taken for a ride

by Bruce Wadd

The sales expertise of this eight or nine year old was exemplary. I came across this mother–daughter combination in the supermarket aisle, selecting grocery items like everyone else.

With a friend alongside, the young lady found something she really wanted. She selected it, shared the joy of the discovery with her companion, and then braced herself for the ‘sell of her life’.

Within seconds she was using her most persuasive words, supported by very agreeable body language, to convince her mother that this was something that undoubtedly needed to be purchased.

It was obvious from the frown on her mother’s face that she wasn’t in agreeance with the idea, but it didn’t take very long before mother’s resolve turned to demise, and the precious item was placed in the trolley.

It was the two glances I received that got my attention most. The mother, immediately following her resolve’s demise, looked over to me as the closest onlooker, giving that knowing and defeated smirk – ‘I’ve been taken for a ride again!’

The daughter turned around to her friend and gave a jump of joy. “See, I’ve outsmarted my mother again! She’s a walkover!” concluded this confident young sales person.

I wonder how many times you’ve been ‘taken for a ride’? How often has the devil convinced you of something incredibly irresistible, only to end up feeling ‘ripped-off’?

You don’t have to stand for it anymore. Here’s an ‘escape route’ truth…

“But despite all this overwhelming victory is ours

through Christ who loved us enough to die for us.”

Romans 8:37

TODAY, enjoy the ride with Jesus!
