Sunny getaway

by Bruce Wadd

I recall a time in my young adult days when I lived in a cloudy city, known for its long damp winters.  One particular year after five months of cold, windy and cloudy weather… I was depressed!  I had grown up living near the beach, where sun and surf was a regular option.

It just seemed there was never a bright day.  I began to wonder whether the local people started to match the weather -  sour and down!

So with two friends, my wife and I we packed the car for a weekend escape, four hours to the north.  Within half an hour of leaving we saw sun-shine, and spent the whole weekend in the sun.  We even took off our coats and jumpers! Yeh!

The burden of guilt or sin can be the same.  It may take minutes, hours, days, weeks or even years.  But confession, though exposing and painful, can bring wonderful relief - like a ray of sunshine.  The weight is finally gone, the heaviness is lifted!

“Restore to me again the joy of your salvation,

and make me willing to obey you.”

Psalms 51:12

Do you want sunshine in your heart?  Let Him in!
