Summer winter by Bruce Wadd
I sat and let the sun bathe my face and warm my heart on this fresh June morning. Winter solstice has just happened – the shortest day of the year. (In the northern hemisphere, it is the longest day of the year!)
And in my weird mind I noted the movement of the sun. In winter, it streams into our living area as soon as the sun rises above the horizon. But in summer, our earth’s star has moved further south, rising and quickly disappearing behind our roofline, shielding us from its heat.
Easily forgotten through this is the sun’s daily movement from winter to summer and back again across the horizon. Every day it moves – actually the earth moves slightly on its axis!
In other words we, as Christians, still need to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground as we reach for heavenly heights!
What do I mean? If your spirituality has become spooky, weird and even un-relatable to the every day person, take a ‘chill pill’! I counsel too many ‘Christians’ damaged by well-intended ‘prophets’, ‘church leaders’, ‘evangelists’, even ‘pastors’… their Christianity has been decimated by people with ‘knowledge’ and ‘authority’!
Remember… the sun still gets up every day and moves gradually between summer and winter. God still builds His kingdom one relationship, one heart change, at a time!
Get back on your knees… get grounded, beckoning God to show you His heart for the lost souls around you… one person at a time!
“You say, ‘I am rich, with everything I want; I don’t need a thing!’ And you
don’t realize that spiritually you are wretched |
