Squashed cane toad

by Bruce Wadd

Queenslanders hate cane toads.  They have become a menace since being introduced over a hundred years ago to assist with pest control within the sugar industry.

Now it’s almost a tradition … there’s unwritten, inhumane laws in the Sunshine State … that you can do all sorts of horrible things to this creature -  drive over them, use a golf club, slug with a cricket bat, kick with your foot [not very effective], even put in the freezer [RSPCA recommended]

I suppose it leads me to asking about how you and I treat human beings; those that are different to us. How about…

v       The Jew and the Arab

v       The black and the white

v       The Muslim and the Christian

v       The overweight or hygienically challenged

v       The mentally disabled

v       The sexually overt man or woman

What’s your attitude towards those different to you? Here’s the prophecy over Jesus’ life, it’s worth meditating on for some time!

“He does not fight nor shout;

He does not raise His voice!

He does not crush the weak,

or quench the smallest hope;

He will end all conflict with His final victory,

And His name shall be the hope

of all the world.”

Matthew 12:19-21

Maybe my cane toad squashing days are over!
