Splinter

by Bruce Wadd

The first thing you notice is a minute tenderness on your finger.  When you investigate further you see a small black spot under the skin – a splinter!  If you’re like me you probably squeeze it to see if it will come out, and if it doesn’t you leave it.

Totally forgotten during the day, evening comes and in a quieter moment you notice your finger being a little more tender – oh that’s right, the splinter’s still there!

The next morning you wake to something obviously not right!  The first time you use your finger, maybe to scratch an itch, a larger and much more sensitive finger screams attention.

You see red swollen skin, maybe some white pus at the centre, and you know that something needs to be done, or it’s only going to get worse.

Into the medical kit you dig, looking for a pin to extract that annoying piece of wood.  Only seconds later the offending speck is out, the pressure is relieved, and already you can notice the lessened intensity of pain.

How similar is this to sin in our lives.  Initially it may be considered insignificant, and so we do nothing, but as the hours, days, weeks or even years go by it becomes more and more obvious that something is not right.

Let me give you the pin, the answer to remove the problem… quickly!

“But if we confess our sins to Him, he can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.”

1 John 1:9

TODAY, let God remove any splinters… confess!
