Somebody else’s lane

by Bruce Wadd

In athletics running short races is exhilarating.  The body is pumped with adrenalin.  The muscled are tuned for explosion.  The ears are accustomed to hearing the gun’s explosion above the spectator noise.

At the start of the race every part of your being is focused on the finish line - the ribbon held tautly above a thick white line painted on the running surface.

The gun goes off! Instantly, the body is in motion, exploding from the blocks.  On either side you are very conscious of the same eruption in your competitors, spurring you on to excellence.  It’s important that you get everything right, because the race will be over in seconds.

Imagine, though, the disaster that would occur if you were to unintentionally stray into a competitor’s lane.  The reaction would be almost immediate, from the other runners as well as the crowd.

Following the race’s completion a red card would be handed to you, meaning disqualification.  What a tragedy! After all that training and effort, to then to be disallowed over such a simple error!

Did you know that God has a plan for your life?  It is unique pathway that only you can travel!  It requires someone with both your strengths and weaknesses, but only occurs when you commit to His design.

Comparing yourself to someone else isn’t the answer.  Getting in tune with God’s purposes and ways for your life is the way to happiness and fulfilment,

“God has given each of us the ability

to do certain things well… Never be lazy in your work

but serve the Lord enthusiastically.’

Romans 12:6a, 11

TODAY, run in your own lane!
