Just sit and enjoy

by Bruce Wadd

Teenage music is not on my most enjoyable list.  Thus my teens regularly remind me of how old I am getting.  The other day, though, they taught me a very important lesson!

With over twenty teens arriving at our door in an instant, the quiet sanctity of our home was transformed into a lively pulsating den of music, conversation and bodies.  With beat and rap exploding the quietness I retreated to my office, only to realise that the building structure was not adequate for the purpose of sound proofing.

Then came my lesson!

My wonderful son could see the frustration on my ‘dial’ and encouraged me to ‘just sit and enjoy’.  He ushered me into the lounge room where half the bodies were absorbed in active banter and thumping music.

Upon being pushed into the chair I began to witness a group of friends merely enjoying each other’s presence, the music adding intensity to the sociable occasion.  Here was a group of people just like I was a few years before, enjoying life right now!

So often, God leads us to a place we don’t want to be, and here in these precious moments, with our heightened attention, He will teach us to appreciate something new.  When He’s got our concentration, the lesson sinks in.

“But all who humble themselves before the Lord shall be given every blessing, and shall have wonderful peace.”
Psalms 37:11

TODAY, take time to sit and enjoy the moment!
