As always, it’s exciting again to be able to share with you all the great songs that have been added to ShareSong.org since the last newsletter.

Last month we featured Commonthread’s new song “Light of Hope” and it went rocketing to top of the popularity charts with nearly 500 votes.  This month we’re featuring all of the songs from Commonthread’s album “Faithful” which contains gutsy and ”real” praise and worship music with a grunge rock flavour.

Commonthread’s songwriter Jennifer Haycraft says, “Just a few weeks ago I got an email from a woman in Finland who heard a song on ShareSong that really ministered to her.  I was able to send her a copy of our CD so she could hear the song whenever she needed to!  That's the point for me - reaching people who need to hear of God's faithfulness.”

The thing that strikes you after listening to the eighteen songs that Dean Krippaehne has submitted is his remarkable mastery of writing and performing a wide variety of genres, including funk, ballad and country!  All his songs are impeccably performed and recorded.  Dean is a vastly experienced artist who runs Gracies Café and sponsors the "Gracies Cafe International Christian Art Festival." Our mission here at Gracies Cafe is simply to do all that we can so that "they may come to know Him... our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

Dean is currently the Director of contemporary music and worship leader at Grace Church in Des Moines, Washington (USA). Dean has also authored two books: "If you wanna catch a fish you've gotta have a hook" and "Joe Panic."  Gracies Cafe Praise Band leads a new "cafe" style worship service at Grace Church in Des Moines, Washington and has released three full length CDs on Tri-West Records.

Song Writers’ Forum #2

The second ShareSong.org Writers' Forum happened on 9 November 2004, gathering momentum, with more songwriters being featured, networked, encouraged and inspired.  Check out the recordings and the pics from the night at http://www.sharesong.org/writer'sforum.htm

At the next forum we plan to focus on workshopping and arranging to polish for performance and publication.

Interested in running a forum to unearth the song writing talent in your backyard?  Check out the proposal and the feedback and song tips sheet or email marty@sharesong.org

Last month we set a new record of 3300 visitors per day (average) to ShareSong.org.  Thanks so much to all of you out there who link to ShareSong.org and send your friends along.

And hundreds of votes and encouraging comments have been flowing in for the song writers.  Keep them coming in!

You'll also notice that we've added a new site map and a site search function on the front page to help you quickly find your way around the site.

Enjoy checking out the great new praise and worship music at ShareSong.org

I’ll leave you with another Ask Rick segment from Saddleback's Rick Muchow on praise and worship.

Blessings

Ask Rick – Praise or Worship?

From Fleesin Icheku serving in Abuja, Nigeria:  Please can you help me differentiate between praise and worship. Is it in the tempo or the content of the song?

RICK MUCHOW:  Praise and worship are more than music.  A true definition of both praise and worship has nothing to do with music.  Worship is a life surrendered to Jesus Christ. God created us to worship. His heart’s desire and purpose for our life is that we worship Him.  Praise is something you give to someone to tell them or show them their worth, value, respect; expressing an acclimation of greatness.  Making Him Lord of our life in church, with other believers, in quietness. . . our response to God should be praise.

Church cultures have defined worship songs as being slower songs sung to God and praise songs as more upbeat songs generally about God, either what He’s done or His character.  These are not Biblical definitions but are church traditions.

Actually, there are five words of worship in the Bible:

1.  Hallelujah is a Hebrew word meaning “Praise the Lord.” It is an exclamatory expression of Praise or Adoration.  Alleluia is a Greek word that means the same thing.

2.  Maranatha is an Aramaic or Syriac word meaning “Our Lord Comes” or is coming as Paul used it to mean “Our Lord is Coming.” It is used to add solemn emphasis to a previous statement.

3.  Hosanna is a Greek transliteration of a Hebrew word.  It means “Save us,” or “Save Now.” It was customarily used at the Feast of Tabernacles and is a shout of welcome.

4.  Abba is an Aramaic word meaning Father which is used in prayer out of reverence to address our heavenly Father as a child might talk to his loving daddy.

5.  Amen is a Hebrew word meaning “So Be It.” It pronounces that what was said or is about to be said is dependable, faithful and certain.  It is related to a Hebrew word meaning “believe” and is an expression of absolute trust and confidence.

The Five Words of Worship are the same in every language around the world.  As the Lord teaches us to worship him in Spirit and in Truth it is important that we understand the meaning of the words of Worship.
