Rock fall down

by Bruce Wadd

My brother and I had climbed the mountain close to our farm.  Upon our arrival, we ventured carefully over the edge of the steepest side to see what was there, and we discovered something we weren't expecting.  There, right in front of our eyes, was a large boulder sitting on the top of another larger rock – quite unique and loaded with possibilities for two young boys!

The challenge, if we chose to accept it, was to try and push this large rock off its perch, and send it plummeting towards its new destination somewhere below.  The engaging prospect of what could happen drove us to push this massive granite boulder as hard as we could!

Despite its extreme weight, we eventually managed to get it rocking and before long had it teetering on the edge of oblivion.  With one final push, it toppled over the edge.

We both stood, amazed at how fast it picked up momentum, as it hurtled downwards between trees and rocks.  This chunk of the mountain would never again to be close to the top!

Like the rock, our lives, left unchecked, quickly builds downward momentum.  From personal experience, I have found there is virtually no stopping my sinfulness once it is unleashed.

I often find myself watching news of some crime, and hear myself whispering, “There, but by the grace of God, go I.”

I wanted to thank him TODAY for His presence in my life holding me back from many ghastly things.  Why not share your experience? Here’s the Good News,

“God did not send His Son

into the world to condemn it,
but to save it.” John 3:17
