Red light days

by Bruce Wadd

“If I get another red light I’ll scream,” I commented to my son.

It’s an experience that seems to happen to me every two weeks or so.  I am driving my normal route to work or to a meeting, but on these days I seem to catch that yellow light just a little too late to go through, and have to brake.

This time if it only happened once it would be OK, but it seemed like almost every traffic light was the same.  The lights must have known I was coming, and irritation levels were rising to ‘melting point’ because I was running late.

I now faced a choice.  Do I get increasingly upset, or just accept that today is a ‘red light’ day, and move on?

Being a Christian, whether new or old, is very similar.  Some days are just not good days.  Everything seems to go wrong!  If you’ve had one recently or are having one TODAY, here is some hope.

God was giving comfort to the Israelites and promised…

“To all who mourn in Israel He will give:

Beauty for ashes

Joy instead of mourning

Praise instead of heaviness

For God has planted them like strong and graceful oaks

for his own glory.”

Isaiah 61:3

God is building in you His future kingdom. Red light days are where He is laying the foundation.

Today, smile on yellow… laugh out loud on red!
