Rebel with a cause

by Bruce Wadd

I just have to tell you about this man that I’ve met via a television documentary. Peter Andrews, considered a stubborn and alternative farmer in rural Australia, has reached a new status after thirty long,  hard years.

This agriculturalist found his farming methods not working in the unpredictable climate. Drought, no food for animals, little income and growing debt forced Peter to look for alternative methods to create an income.

Over many years he had gradually converted his large acreage to pre-European styles of vegetation and water capture, the vital ingredient for successful farming.

Despite being so convinced about his alternative farming methods, he was considered a ‘crank’ or a ‘nutter’. Over three decades, Peter tried to run his business as well as document and share his ideas with those who could influence the scientific thinking of the day.

It’s only now, when much of the east coast of Australia is in the grip of the worst drought on record, that Peter’s property remains productive, that he is beginning to be considered a ‘rural prophet’.

Jesus, much like Mr. Andrew, was alternative, contrary, lacking credentials, not respected by those with influence, but listened to by ordinary folk. Those open to hearing a man with hope in his heart. Are you open?

“But the Gateway to life is small,

and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it.”

Matthew 7:14

TODAY, let Jesus break any drought!
