Seeding a pumpkin vine

by Bruce Wadd

Young pumpkin vines are such wonderful things to watch.  In late spring and early summer they grow from just a seed dropped into the ground.  It quickly blossoms into a mature vine with large green leaves, yellow flowers, and pumpkins.

The influence that you have on other people can be just the same.  It might be months or years later, after you have sown the seed of influence and kindness, that something ignites uniqueness in someone’s life, and things start to blossom.

I can still remember hating English in high school, at least till year 11. For the first time my teacher, Miss Jones, made the subject really interesting.  One day she came up and just whispered a few words during a quiet essay writing time, “You’ll make a great writer someday!”  Only a few words, but what a spark of hope that sowed inside!

Here I am, many years later, sitting in my study, fascinated by the kaleidoscope of images created in the mind through written words.  The beauty of well-constructed sentences is something that brings great joy to my life.

What seeds of hope have you sowed in people’s lives today?  You never know, it might change a life… just from something you said or did!

“Kind words are like honey – enjoyable and healthy.”

Proverbs 16:24

TODAY, sow the seeds and look forward to harvest!
