Peeling it off

by Bruce Wadd

The airline hostess stopped her trolley at my row of seats and offered, "Can I get you a drink, sir?  We have apple juice or soft drinks on offer."

The apple juice was given with the appropriate smile, and she moved on. In front of me was this small plastic container with a top that needed to be ripped off.  I'd had these before, and knew the possible end result!  'This time was going to be different,' I thought to myself!

I took the container and started ripping.  It went OK at first, but I needed to be really careful or wearing the drink was a real possibility.

As I pulled harder, and held even more firmly, the lid peeled well till the final tear.  Right at the end, just before it completely came off it became more difficult.  I gave one last tug, and you guessed it, spilled it all over my lap - exactly what I was trying to avoid!

My trousers were smattered with juice, in all the wrong places.  Oh! No!

So often sin catches us out!  Life is going fine, and then right near the end of a good day, things turn bad.  You’ve put in such a good performance, and then disaster!

What do you do?  How do you handle the spill?

I am so glad my Christian life is not based upon my performances, the spills I may have, but on the attitude of God towards me.

"God has rescued me

from all my troubles, and

triumphed over my enemies."
Psalms 53:7
