On top

by Bruce Wadd

Climbing to the top of the hill was a real struggle.  There were times where I couldn't see the end result.  As I got closer to the top my body was screaming to be released from this self-induced torture!

Finally, though, I arrived.  As I lifted my eyes to the view I realized that I could see the whole world (almost)!  Yes, it was better than what I’d imagined, just like my friends has predicted!

Gradually the pain in the chest subsided, and the heartbeat finally returned to normal, so I could soak in the magnificent view.  It was worth the struggle!

Are there ever times when you feel like you are climbing this never-ending steep slope, ascending in the dark, often struggling to keep moving forward … and constantly asking yourself, for what purpose?

Believe it or not … this personal battle can be joyous!  How’s that, you ask?

Without sounding trite, once you know you are loved, and you have a purpose for being here, the reasons exist to push onward, through anything that may come your way!  We don’t need to understand all things right now – wisdom can come with time and insight!  You’ve just got to keep walking … up the slope!

“I strain to reach the end of the race

[the top of the mountain] and receive the prize

for which God is calling us up to heaven because

of what Christ Jesus did for us [ME]”

Philippians 3:14

Life’s about climbing mountains, because there is a top to reach!
