Oh no not again!

by Bruce Wadd

Watching a mother continually allow her infant to stumble and fall wouldn’t be considered caring behaviour, but picture this!

The precious infant has been crawling for several months, standing up next to things and looking really confident on her feet. Mum, dad, grandparents, friends, all note the growing strength with plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’.

But there comes a day when this budding Olympic athlete, mum and dad’s future desires, tries to step out, unsupported by furniture or walls. Mum is the only one in the room at the time when this significant occasion happens, and she stops, transfixed by this moment in time.

Her child is about to take her first steps!

With hands moving for balance and eyes glued to her mother, the angelic tot moves her foot forward, then the other one. Her feedback manager – mum – is glowing… ecstatic… jumping and screaming.

“You took your first step,” mum exclaims.

But in the next step the infant crashes to the ground with thud, tears following quickly. At this point mum drops to the floor, comforting the new toddler, but also knowing an important fact – before this young one becomes an accomplished walker there are going to be plenty more stumbles!

‘Not again’ is a phrase mum never utters, because she knows that it’s one less stumble before her baby matures as a walker.

Have you been in a situation where you know you’ve been there before? Circumstances have come full circle, and you’re back there again after the last mistake. You’re definitely not wanting a repeat session.

Let me just remind you, that like mum, Jesus is with you today. He aches for you to become stronger, but knows that mistakes are part of the learning process. Here is some good news…

“But if you sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. His name is Jesus Christ, the one who is all that is good and who pleases God completely.” 1 John 2:1

TODAY, remember, you serve a God that wants you to grow… by stumbling!
