Obedience
Ever wondered as a parent why the simplest commands are so difficult for your kids to obey? In raising up my kids, I have learned just how important obedience is.
When you are a child, you want to obey your parents so that you can avoid the consequences. But as you mature, you learn what it means to want to obey your parents out of respect and love.
A fundamental ingredient in teaching our children to obey is discipline. If we're consistent in our efforts, we eventually see the rewards later, as we watch them grow into mature adults.
As God continues to teach us, as adults, we continue to grow in our desire to obey Him because we WANT to, because we desire to please our Father. More than just avoiding the undesirable consequences, we want to do what our Father asks of us because we love Him.
I want to encourage you to keep it up! To train and discipline your children is both challenging and rewarding. Look at the results in your own life, your experiences with obedience to the voice of God, as the great example of the blessings that come from obedience!
“Train a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) See what blessings God has for you, as you are obedient to Him!
