My way

by Bruce Wadd

It’s not an unexpected thing to see – a two year old stamping their feet and wanting their own way. Whether it’s getting dressed, wanting something in the supermarket, or demanding your attention, the message is still the same – ‘I want my way!’

What would be much more unusual, though, would be turning into a new supermarket aisle and seeing an adult flinging themselves to the ground demanding their own way.  Close by, and with an incredibly bright red face is their partner, embarrassed about the whole situation.

You certainly wouldn’t expect to see such a display, but unfortunately the inside part, not the external display, happens all the time. We want our own way!

Have you ever met someone, had to work with or live with someone that constantly demands their own way? ‘I want it my way,’ is the clear message being broadcast from every thing they do.  Difficult to live with, isn’t it?

God created us with our own minds and wills, and because of His love He allows us to choose our pathway in life.  His desire, though, is that we give Him first place in our lives.

Like the parent of the ‘supermarket’ child, God’s goal, and our only chance of maturation, is giving our way over to Him, so that we become absorbed in His thinking.

Like the child writhing on the floor, their true happiness comes in submitting their will to their parent, who sees the bigger picture! Our humanity dislikes giving our will to anyone, but read this…

“And when my heart is right,

then You will rejoice in the good that I do…”

Psalms 51:19a

TODAY, discover God’s way… it will lead to true happiness!
