Meeting a need

by Karen Collum

“You’re not very good at this are you?”  As the personal assistant to the president at the church head office, I was used to fielding unusual and difficult calls; however, the lady on the other end of the phone was disconcerting.

She had rung to ask for the number of a doctor in our denomination who lived in another state.  My data access was limited to people living in my state.  I tried to explain this to my elderly caller, but she clearly felt it was my incompetence preventing her getting the information she needed.

After 15 minutes of difficult dialogue, smattered with comments about ineptness and inability to do my job, I finally got enough details from her to look up the doctor in the White Pages.

Upon sharing the phone number and address with her, the old lady experienced a transformation.  “No-one has ever helped me like you have,” she said. “You are so helpful and so professional!”

What changed her opinion of me, so dramatically, in such a short time?  The answer was quite clear – I’d met her need!

God knows all our needs.  And He meets our needs too!

“My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus

to give you everything you need.”

Philippians 4:19 (NCV)

Dwell on how God has met your needs and thank Him for it!
