Lumpy carpet

by Bruce Wadd

“You’re going to have to get this carpet seen to,” came the complaint. Slowly the visitor picked them off the floor, turning around and analysing why they had fallen.

This unfortunate lady had highlighted a problem and when it was investigated further the issue became clear.  The cleaners in this aged-cared facility had been shortcutting their work expectation and sweeping the dirt underneath the floor covering.

‘No one will notice,’ they’d thought to themselves, and with no one watching had continued this practice until the accident.

Something had to be done!  The manager of the facility gave clear instructions. “You either both clean up the mess and change your work habits, or it’s time to leave!” he instructed.

With no complaints from the cleaners, it wasn’t long before they were into the massive task of moving every mat and piece of furniture and cleaning underneath.

Rather than disappearing, the lumps in your life will grow until they can’t be avoided.  Today I wanted to encourage you to face your past pain, hurt, innuendo, rumour, gossip, critical spirit, unforgiveness or disharmony with others!

Sweeping it under the carpet is just not the answer!  Here’s the way forward…

“… leave your sacrifice there… go and apologize

and be reconciled to him (or her), and then come

and offer your sacrifice to God.”

Matthew 5:24
