Let’s build a chook* shed

by Bruce Wadd

“Guess what I did on the weekend,” asked one of my students.

“I don’t’ know… went to the movies?”
I responded, knowing I was going to be wrong.

“I built a chook* shed with my Dad.”  Derek desperately tried to share the process with me, but his face told the story much better.

Dad, a struggling alcoholic with a violent temper, must have had a glorious moment – or a win at the races – because out of the blue he invited Derek to join him in knocking down the old chook shed and replacing it with a totally new structure.

“Dad taught me how to use a saw, a drill, how to hammer properly…” he continued.  Derek was overflowing with joy, hope and confidence.  His father had taken an interest in him, spent some time and taught him some really valuable lessons.

God, your heavenly Father, yearns to do the same with you.  To spend time, teach you things and give you untold amount of blessings… but He wants your attention first!  I wonder what you could be doing TODAY with the Lord, if you let Him.

“And if even sinful persons like yourselves

give children what they need, don’t you realize

that your heavenly Father will do at least as much,

and give the Holy Spirit to those who ask for him?”

Luke 11:13

Are you listening?
