Labour of love

by Brandy Ferguson

I have had the joyous privilege of experiencing the miracle of conception, growing our babies, and ultimately, the birth of our children.  No matter how many times we witness the wonder and awe of such a grand and wonderful experience, it never grows old.  My husband and I are still amazed, even after having five sons.

Each phase of pregnancy offers different challenges until eventually, the time comes for the greatest challenge of them all – childbirth – the labour of love.  Not an easy thing, typically, with many mothers birthing for hours, waiting the arrival of their precious creation.

With an intense flood of emotion, exhilaration and physical strain, the baby is born.  You’re the co-creator of this new little bundle of joy, and as you gaze into their eyes for the very first time, you forget, even if only for a moment, all the pain that this new gift means.

It’s worth it – every second, every minute, every sacrifice!

Not everyone will experience childbirth, but everyone is given the opportunity to co-create with God.  What labour pains are you experiencing right now?  What gift is He growing in your heart for you to release to the world?

“To this end I labour, struggling with all his energy,

which so powerfully works in me.”

Colossians 1:29 NIV
