It always happens

by Dave Hamilton

Since returning from my mission trip to Kenya, I have tried to get back into the routine of ‘normal’ life.  One part of that routine is to return those things I have put away safely back into their normal places.

Two items that I ‘hid’ very well prior to leaving for Kenya, were my spare set of glasses and the spare house key.

Although I can live with just one set of specs, I am concerned that I can’t find the spare house key.  When frustration peaked this week, I decided to go and buy another [$3:00] pair of reading glasses.  I had spent too much time trying to find the lost pair.   I put the new glasses in a place that I WOULD NOT forget.

To my amazement, there were the old glasses.  Why hadn’t I looked there before?

So often we put a treasured possession in a safe place we can’t find.  We, therefore, are unable to gain the benefit and/or pleasure from it.

We sometimes put the gifts of the Spirit or the blessings God gives us in a secret place in our lives for safe keeping.  What a waste!

Why not use the gifts for the building and edifying the church – God’s people.  Rejoice!  Share the joy of knowing Christ inside with others!

'And when she finds it, she calls her friends

and neighbours together and says,

“Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.”'

Luke 15:9

(…or glasses in my case!)

PS: I think I just remembered where the spare key is!
