Hot hot scone

by Bruce Wadd

Here’s an insignificant fact – butter melts better with hot scones!  Wow, you say…and what’s important about that?  If you are serving afternoon tea for a group of elderly ladies, having the scones at the right temperature is of critical importance.

Now let’s take this idea into a spiritual realm.  ‘Mercy works better in difficult / impossible situations.’

The other night I visited an interesting person in their early fifties.  Long grey hair beyond his shoulders; an out-of-control beard reaching his chest; hands shaking from many years of light and heavy drug use; eyes focused on the immediate; and an attitude of bitterness and hatred towards most other people.

His unit was littered with old newspapers, had a stale odour of old cigarette butts, and cried out for the caring cleaning touch from someone other than this man!

As our conversation progressed I began thinking that here was sitting a potential miracle of God. Only God could transform this man’s life.  Most humans had given up on him long ago, but God could do the impossible.

Mercy and love could work better because humanity had failed again!  And what a celebration it would be - the miracle of a changed life!

“For if you had faith even as small as a tiny mustard seed you could say to this mountain,

‘Move!’…Nothing would be impossible.”

Matthew 17:20

Today, let God’s mercy and power work through you, to make a change!
