Hold on to…

by Bruce Wadd

I got the garbled phone call… “She’s won!” My wife was on the other end of the phone, screaming, crying, excitedly and unashamedly letting the world know!

Our daughter had just won Australia’s ‘apprentice baker of the year’ competition. She was the first female ever to win this prestigious award!

Without divulging the details, this victory came with mixed emotions. We were so excited and proud of our daughter! Let me explain…

Several years of her life our eldest went through some difficult and rebellious times. She made choices that we did not approve of. She chose friends we did not think best for her. She seemed to be wasting her life. She was rude, inconsiderate and selfish.

Loving was tough! But what choice did we have but to hang on to who we knew she really was?

Many tears were spent. Prayer times were long and painful. Our hearts were close to breaking point. We had to let her make her choices, standing and watching… and still loving, was the most challenging experience we’ve had to do as parents. (Even as I write, I wipe away tears!)

But when she won the award, we were doubly proud. We knew what she was capable of all along, and now she had lifted to her potential. What sweet victory!

God is so proud of you, and looks forward to spending time with you. His love is for always, despite the choices you’ve made!

“From the bottom of my heart praise rises to Him.

Where is His equal in all of heaven and earth?”

Psalms 35:10a

TODAY, hold on to that love!
