Headlight magnetism

by Bruce Wadd

Driving at night brings different reactions from drivers.  Some really love it, whilst others flatly refuse because of vision challenges.

At night new drivers can be nervous or tentative.  When proceeding along a normal two-lane road, they face the challenge of meeting oncoming traffic.  Every so often, a vehicle forgets to dim their high beam, and immediately the driver’s eyes fill with glare.

Where do you look?  The usual reaction is to stare back at the lights.  But once that happens, the inexperienced driver begins steering towards the brightness with disastrous results, if something doesn’t change quickly.

Eventually the new driver learns that looking away to the edge of the road is the key to driving safely at night, resisting the lure of oncoming headlights.

Temptation is exactly the same.  Direct resistance, as in the form of “I must stop…”, merely assures you of being sucked into its attraction.  The only answer to temptation magnetism is diversion, turning your mind to God.

“Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right.  Think about things that are pure, lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others.  Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.”

Philippians 4:8

TODAY, resist the magnetism by developing a God-focus!
