Guilt

by Brandy Ferguson

In an effort to protect my two youngest ones, I pulled them back and quickly tried to shut the door.  To my horror, I found that in the process I had injured one of my other sons, who was on the other side of the door.

In an attempt to protect, I had caused pain!  Instantly, I was overwhelmed with guilt as I carried my injured son, toe dripping blood, to the kitchen sink to wash and assess the wound.

I wonder whether it’s not only moms that daily carry guilt around.  Instead of holding onto it, wouldn’t it be easier to allow God to take it all away?

What guilt are you hanging onto?

The greatest gift is forgiveness, as I was reminded today when repeatedly apologizing to Dylan.  He simply looked at me and said, “Mommy, quit saying sorry, its okay!”

“Let us draw near to God

with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,

having our hearts sprinkled

to cleanse us from a guilty conscience

and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess,

for He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:22, 23 NIV
