The grass is long

by Bruce Wadd

I’ve noticed that some people always seem to keep things in order.  They maintain their cars, repair their homes … even mow their lawns, at the proper times.

Other people, me included, seem to let the grass get long and messy.  Not all the time, just every now and then!

Recently my back lawn got rather long.  My excuse was a broken lawn mower.  It was dry weather as well, so the grass wasn’t really growing.  But it got to a point where it needed cutting, and so the mower was eventually repaired, and the thick tall grass cut.

I like making a difference in my life.  And one of the nice things about cutting long grass is you can certainly notice when it’s cut!

I wonder if confession of sin is the same.  Do some people do it quickly, and get on with their lives?  Whilst others seem to take forever to lay things out for God?

Which ever way is chosen – the ‘let’s get it over with’ or the ‘I am going to leave it for as long as possible’ method - the pain levels are just the same.  The only difference is that the discomfort merely lasts longer in the second approach.

“How do I know?” you ask.  I’ve tried both … neither are pleasant, but the cleanliness and relief of confession is worth every discomfort.  It’s just easier to get it over with, especially given that He knows already!  Email me your thoughts.

Here’s the wonderful truth of Jesus’ love for the sinners amongst us…

“But if we confess our sins to Him,

He can be depended on to forgive us and

to cleanse us from every wrong.”

 1 John 1:9

TODAY, decide whether you want the grass long … or mowed!
